5 New Hampshire Ski Towns to Visit This Winter

North Conway, New Hampshire

Named one of the best ski towns in the world by National Geographic, North Conway is in a league all its own. With seven ski resorts from Cranmore to Bretton Woods within driving distance, this New Hampshire ski town places trails of every shape and size at your fingertips. But North Conway offers much more than easy access to the slopes. Visit the Muddy Paws Sled Dog Kennel in nearby Jefferson and explore the White Mountains atop a dog sled. For the shopping enthusiasts, stop into the North Conway Settlers’ Green Outlet Village and enjoy a day of tax-free shopping. And for all your après ski  fun, hit up Red Parka Steakhouse & Pub, with live music on Fridays and Saturdays and an open mic on Mondays.

Jackson and Intervale, New Hampshire

Black Mountain and Wildcat Mountain are located high in the mountains above the towns of Jackson and Intervale, N.H. With well over one hundred trails, these two New Hampshire ski mountains will leave you plenty satisfied with your vacation. And, if you feel up to the twenty minute drive, your lift ticket from Wildcat is also valid at Attitash Mountain Resort (even on the same day!). After days of exploring the best skiing that New Hampshire has to offer, return home to the quiet, cozy towns of Jackson and Intervale.

Jackson

This charming village allows history-minded skiers to get a glimpse into New Hampshire's past. Wander through Jackson's sublime landscape to the ‘Honeymoon’ covered bridge, constructed in 1876. And if you get tired of skiing (if that’s even possible), enjoy other winter weather activities such as ice skating and snowshoeing in the beautiful White Mountains.

Intervale

There’s nothing quite like coming home to a quiet hamlet after a long ski day. Intervale offers families the opportunity to be close to the best skiing in the state without having to stay in bustling North Conway. Get in touch with New Hampshire's natural beauty and explore this lovely town, nestled in the White Mountains.

Lincoln, New Hampshire

Your spirits will get a lift at Loon Mountain, located in Lincoln, N.H. With twelve runs and 340 skiable acres, this New Hampshire ski mountain is the perfect stop for intermediate skiers. And the best part is, in Lincoln, the slopes are located just minutes from your door. Relax after a long day of skiing by exploring dozens of shops located in downtown. Or take a drive down the Kancamagus Highway, a 34.5 mile scenic byway which meanders through the White Mountains. If you're looking for a change of pace, make the fifteen minute drive up to Cannon Mountain Resort, where, thanks to its 95 trails, you'll never run out of places to explore.

Waterville Valley, New Hampshire

Though this town only has 260 permanent residents, on big ski weekends, Waterville Valley comes alive with thousands of visitors. This year-round resort community is located at the base of the Mt. Tecumseh, home of the Waterville Valley Resort. Ski to your heart's content on this 4,000 ft high mountain and spend your days exploring its 50 trails. Take a mid-day break and grab lunch at one of the many restaurants in the village such like PotBellies Sandwich Shop, where you can warm up with a piping hot cheese steak. And don’t worry about getting to and from the mountain—the Waterville Valley has a resort shuttle that runs continuously throughout the day. Enhance your ski vacation by exploring one (or more!) of these charming New Hampshire ski towns. With great shopping, dining, and alternative winter activities, these towns ensure that tearing up the slopes won't be the only thing you do on your New Hampshire ski getaway.
