Boston Baseball Attractions for Fans of America’s Pastime

Nothing says springtime quite like the beginning of baseball season, and no place loves baseball quite like Boston. Even fans of certain rival teams will admit that Beantown’s baseball culture, anchored by the Red Sox and historic Fenway Park, is something special. Catching a Red Sox game is one of our favorite things to do on a spring trip to Boston, and it's a window into the culture of one of America's most diehard sports towns. Beyond the big ballpark, you'll find an array of specialty bars — where players have even been known to stop by and celebrate with fans — along with museums and and local sports franchises. Start breaking in your mitt for a tour of these top Boston baseball attractions.

Fenway Park Tour and Red Sox Game

The most obvious and most necessary of Boston baseball attractions, a visit to Fenway Park, combines world-class history, sport, and entertainment. Dating back to 1912, it is the oldest baseball park in America and is beloved for its structural quirks like the Green Monster and Pesky’s Pole. The best way to experience Fenway Park is to get tickets to a Red Sox game and arrive early to take a tour. Tours can include batting practice tours, group tours, and birthday tours. Enjoy the views from the Green Monster, take a walk around the warning track, sit in the Ted Williams's seat, and even check out the press box. If you’re lucky enough to get tickets to a game, sit back with a drink and some peanuts and revel in the way the entire city gets behind their hometown team. Sports bars and restaurants line the area around the stadium as well.

Amateur and College Baseball in Boston

If you’re looking to get closer to the everyday people who play only for the love of the game, there are plenty of amateur baseball games all over Boston. With so many prestigious universities, the city is brimming with college baseball teams. Amateur leagues are hugely popular as well. Boston Park League Baseball is the oldest amateur league in the country, at one time drawing as many as 18,000 fans to its games. Check out the schedules for Boston College, Harvard University, and Boston University and see some rising baseball stars at work.

The Sports Museum

For the most sports-crazed part of Boston outside of Fenway, head to the area around TD Garden. TD Garden, which houses the Boston Bruins hockey team and the Boston Celtics basketball team, has its very own museum devoted to Boston sports. Head to levels 5 and 6 of the Garden to The Sports Museum and peruse a half-mile of rare memorabilia celebrating the best of Boston sports, including the ball that struck Red Sox legend Tony Coniglario in the eye and ended his career.

Baseball Bars and Restaurants

While you can’t beat a beautiful afternoon at the ballpark, an evening at one of Boston’s famous baseball bars and restaurants certainly comes close. With New England classic cuisine like clam chowder and lobster, lively supporters with their eyes glued to the TV, and menus that revolve around the Red Sox, Boston’s sports bars offer a slice of culture to accompany that pint of local brew. In a league of its own is Bleacher Bar, a gorgeous and ambient watering hole within Fenway Park's Green Monster. You don’t need a ticket to the game to get into the bar, though you will want to get there a few hours early on a home game day.

For a great sound system and big TVs, not to mention an onsite batting cage, check out Game On!. The historic Baseball Tavern provides great ambiance as well as Friday night karaoke within a fly ball of the stadium.
