Imagine painting Prouts Neck, walking in Winslow Homer's footsteps, and soaking in the Maine seaside inspiration that only Prouts Neck has to offer. Join Maine painter Holly Ready for her open air painting workshop, "Painting Prouts Neck” - with an emphasis on how to capture the light.

In this idyllic setting, the workshop will focus on color, value, and composition as a vehicle to capture the mood of the moment. Holly offers the highest level of one-on-one coaching throughout. At the end of each day Holly and participants will close with a critique of every painting completed during that session. Assessment of the work will be conducted on a one-to-one basis to encourage individual growth and in-group critiques throughout the afternoon. The goal: to help you paint more comfortably in your own unique style, using the expressive language of color on canvas.

For those who may accompany their artist partner, but will not be participating in the workshop, during your stay you can play 18 holes of Oceanside links golf on the abutting private country club course, walk the miles of sandy beaches surrounding the Inn, use our geothermally heated swimming pool, or sit by a roaring fireplace with a great book. About the Artist:
Holly grew up in New England and received her BFA from Maine College of Art. She has worked as a gallery director, been involved in numerous shows, and galleries, taught private lessons and led painting workshops. She paints year round in her studio/gallery, the Holly Ready Gallery in Portland, Maine. She is passionate about painting, is an attentive teacher and loves to share what she knows. Her fascination with light and color is evident in her landscapes, the subject often being light itself. She is widely collected through this country and abroad. In 2011 "Fore River Sunset" was chosen for the cover of the recently released book revision of “Maine, The Pine Tree State”.

About the Workshop:
We will do a couple exercises, both working with limited palettes, one a value study, the other a color study. One morning only black and white paint and the various values of grays achieved through mixing will be used. The second exercise will be limited to black, white, yellow ochre and burnt sienna. Although Holly paints with oils and gouache, students are welcome to work in the medium of preference: water-based or oil paints, pastels. You should be comfortable in your skill level in your chosen medium.
