When it began offering accommodations and meals to travelers, George Washington was in the first year of his presidency and the Revolutionary War had ended just six years before.

Feel like you have stepped back in time to 18th century New England but, with all the modern conveniences of today. Fireplaces, antiques, and hand-painted murals are backdrops to this romantic setting.

The Hancock Inn remains true to its origin, filled with colonial-style furniture, antiques from New England and paintings and curios “of the period.”

Traditional New Hampshire Tavern Dining at the Hancock Inn

Each day in our restaurant starts with a full breakfast. Relax with your coffee in any of our Sitting Rooms, then join us in the Tavern or Dining Room for a buffet of fresh homemade breads and granola, plus fresh fruit and juice, followed by your choice of breakfast items – including bacon, homemade sausage and corned beef hash, broiled tomatoes, homemade baked beans, hash browns and, of course, eggs as you like them.

The Tavern opens for cocktails at 5:00 p.m. Relax with your drinks in the Sitting Rooms, or outdoors on the Patio, while you wait for your dinner guests, visit with friends, or read any of the numerous newspapers and magazines here for your information and entertainment.

Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m. The last seating is at 8:00 p.m. July through October the last seating is at 9:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The menu changes seasonally and celebrates the comforts of fine New England cuisine – roast beef, pan-roasted fish, steaks, seasonal vegetables and flavorful, rich braises such as our signature, Shaker Cranberry Pot Roast. In the Tavern, enjoy favorites such as a hamburger with blue cheese and roasted shallots, fish and chips, mac and cheese, chicken pot pie.

On Sunday, we host an Innkeepers’ Supper from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. that features a single, home-cooked meal for a prix fixe amount of $15.00 per person (not including beverage, tax and gratuity). Join us for spaghetti and meatballs, roast loin of pork, grilled chicken under-a-brick, beef bourguignon, New England boiled dinner, and other favorites that offer a comforting close to the weekend.
