Longfellows Wayside Inn

Longfellows Wayside Inn

Sudbury, MA

Longfellow's Wayside Inn is the oldest operating inn in the country, offering gracious hospitality to travelers along the Boston Post Road since 1716. Whether it be for a weekend getaway, a special retreat or simply a quiet evening away, the Wayside Inn offers a classic New England B&B experience any time of year.

Each of our 9 guest rooms has a view of our wooded and private grounds, filled with gardens, charming buildings, and historic spaces. We encourage people to take advantage of the unstructured layout of our village-like campus—to walk the fields and trails, explore the Longfellow Garden, tour the Inn, Mill, and Schoolhouse, or sit for a picnic lunch next to Hop Brook.

Part of the Wayside Inn Historic Site—a Massachusetts Historic Landmark—the Inn is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2011 the Wayside Inn was voted by the editors of Yankee Magazine as 'Best Historic Lodging.' Come and see for yourself why the Wayside Inn is 'worlds away from the everyday'!

The Wayside Inn offers a variety of dining options, serving hearty New England classics as well as some interesting updates for the more portion-conscious diners! Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in our wonderfully rustic and atmospheric dining rooms.

NEW Patio Dining! Catch the gentle breezes of summer, and dine while taking in the historic landscape of America's oldest Inn! Our brand-new patio is situated on the east lawn, under beautiful shade trees and overlooking the tranquil Longfellow Garden. Serving lunch and dinner every day, with a seasonal limited menu available on our patio between 3pm and 5pm, Monday through Saturday.

Check out our seasonal martinis and sample some of our newest menu items! If you think that the post-and-beam interior of the Wayside Inn is too formal, we've found just the right place for you. Traditional wrought-iron seating and bright cotton umbrellas feel right at home in this classic New England dining venue.
The Wayside Inn is only 20 miles west of Boston and dramatically located along a stretch of the original Boston Post Road. The Wayside Inn Historic Site maintains an unpaved 150 yard section of the famous byway which runs within 10 feet of the Inn's front door.

The 125-acre campus includes a working water-powered Grist Mill and a late 18th century Schoolhouse. Both buildings are open for touring on a seasonal basis, with plenty of picnicing spots on our grassy fields surrounded by lush woodlands.

The Inn is within 20 miles of a number of museums, sports facilities, shopping destinations, historic properties and other family-friendly activities. Be sure to visit our website before your visit and check our events page—you never know what will be happening the day of your memorable visit!
