Wakefield Inn & Restaurant

The Wakefield Inn & Restaurant sits comfortably in the quaint small village of Wakefield Corner. The Inn is one of only twenty seven historic homes on the United States National Register of Historic Places and was formerly known as the Spiral Staircase Inn and The Elmwood Inn. The house dates all the way back to 1804. The Inn was originally constructed as a home for Seaman William Frost. His magnificent goal was to build the largest, tallest (three stories) and grandest home in Wakefield, and he did. It remained a private residence until 1890 when the home was converted to an Inn where guests, for several years, arrived at the Inn by stage coach.

At the time, Wakefield Corner was considered the center of town because of the six stage coach lines. In 1895 the railroad began providing transportation for the Inn’s guests from Wakefield’s five train stations.

The historic home features a beautiful flying spiral staircase, the original stage coach door, a three sided fireplace with beehive oven in the dining room, a big picture window overlooking the lovely back gardens and a grand wrap-around porch. Guests love to relax, read, or enjoy a nice view of the village right from the porch.

Nowadays, the Inn contains six bed and breakfast rooms, each with an individual private bath. In addition, it offers a full service restaurant with menu designed by Chef Christina Nicastro. Our family and friendly staff look forward to treating you with the greatest hospitality on your next visit at the wonderfully historic Wakefield Inn and Restaurant.
