A former Governor's mansion, the Swift House Inn is in the quintessential Vermont town of Middlebury. Located on almost four acres of beautiful lawns and gardens the Inn is just a short walk to Middlebury College and local shops. Middlebury's Town Hall Theater and Middlebury College bring numerous events, to include plays, concerts, opera and recitals. Being at the foot of the Green Mountains in the Champlain Valley, the area has some of the best opportunities for bicycling and fly fishing in the state. In addition the nearby Moosalamoo National Recreation Area abounds in hiking opportunities. Winter nordic and alpine skiing are a short drive. Jeesica's Restaurant and bar offers great dinning and the best wine list in the area, recognized by a Wine Spectator Award. Our sauna and steam shower are popular after a day of exploring. The Middlebury Inn is a delightful year round vacation destination where our guests can enjoy our historic hospitality, and walk, bike, or drive to their favorite attraction then return to the relaxing comfort of our Inn.
Residing in the heart of the Champlain Valley, The Middlebury Inn has been welcoming guests since 1827. Overlooking the village greens of this Vermont shire town, this historic inn boasts of beautiful and elegantly restored guest rooms and suites graced with formal Victorian accents. The Porter Mansion, an annex to the Inn and built in 1825 by Jonathon Wainwright, offers ten additional guest rooms accessed by a lovely circular staircase and serves well for business or family retreats. Also annex to the Inn are two motel-style buildings concluding our property and completes the 71 room availability

One of the reasons you come to Vermont is to enjoy the benefits of locally sourced fresh food from dedicated small farmers, artisan cheese makers and specialty meat suppliers. Our Chef prides himself on the creative use of these ingredients as he prepares delicious dishes that are both satisfying and memorable. As a graduate of the well respected culinary program at Johnson and Wales in Charleston, South Carolina, Chef Phil Gaulin brings great experience, talent and presents a bright start to a new chapter in Middlebury Inn's dining history.

For Morgan's Tavern, Chef Gaulin acquires the freshest ingredients from Vermont producers and purveyors through the Vermont Fresh Network Partnershipeveryday. Our philosophy is that fresh is always best. All of our food is cooked with the guest's satisfaction in mind, to create a truly memorable and satisfying dining experience.

Recently added to our list of beverage vendors was the Art of Tea. Founded in 2006 in Los Angeles by Master Tea Blender Steve Schwartz, Art of Tea is a leading purveyor of organic and specialty teas. Art of Tea sources the world's finest organic teas and botanicals directly from growers. Each of their over 200 teas are hand blended and hand packed "to order" in their Los Angeles based facility and are directly distributed to cafes and restaurants who share in their vision for delivering the highest quality tea experience possible. Be sure to stop in and enjoy our Afternoon Tea to try your favorite tea blend. Whether you are dining in Morgan's Tavern, grabbing a beer and burger at the bar or attending a wedding reception, we believe you will want to come back for years to come to enjoy all the best that the Inn offers.

At our restaurant, Artistry on the Green, we are passionate about food.  Our creative culinary team, led by Executive Chef Mathew Molloy (formerly of Lumiere in Newton and Beacon Hill Bistro) uses fresh, seasonal ingredients to create delicious meals.  Our menu showcases New England favorites with an inspired twist.  We have developed close relationships with local farmers, and feature the bounty of New England at our tables every day.

The restaurant projects the same warmth that you can find throughout The Inn.  We believe that food can be used to celebrate, to comfort, and to nurture.  Join us for all occasions - a romantic, long lingering meal, a lively gathering of family and friends, and everything in between.
