The Area
Cape Cod and Falmouth Activities. There is so much you can choose to do:

Arts and Culture events
The College Light Opera, Cape Cod Theatre Project and the Woods Hole Film Festival are just some of the Art and Culture venues. There are a number of year-round and summer theatres. You may also discover American history at Falmouth Museums on the Green or the Woods Hole Historical Museum. Experience the beauty of nature while strolling the paths of picturesque Spohr Gardens and Beebe Woods.

Beaches
Falmouth enjoys over 68 miles of coastline. Here you will find twelve sparkling public beaches where you can relax on the sand and enjoy our wonderfully mild water that is warmed to 70 degrees in summer by the Gulf Stream (warmest on Cape Cod).

Outdoor activities
Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy sailing, windsurfing, golf, kayaking, fishing, and cycling the Shining Sea Bike Path. And our world-class scientific institutions make for a fascinating afternoon adventure – including a petting zoo for aquatic creatures!
Ashumet Holly & Wildlife Sanctuary (East Falmouth)
An expansive 45 acres including nature trails, guided nature walks, bird watching, spring seal cruises, summer and fall cruises to Cuttyhunk Island. Ashumet Holly is well known for its 65 varieties of holly trees planted throughout the sanctuary.

Biking, Roller Blading and Jogging
•Shining Sea Bikeway – 7.2 mile (round trip) level path between Falmouth and Woods Hole. The Bikeway traverses salt marshes, cranberry bogs, ponds and woodlands; it skirts sandy shores and a busy working harbor. It is also the only bikeway on Cape Cod that has a section along the seashore.
•Cape Cod Canal – 13 mile (round trip) level trail runs along the Cape Cod Canal from Bourne to Sandwich on the Cape side.

Fishing
Fishing is permitted from our many docks and bridges.  You can also enjoy surf casting from any of our beaches.  No license is required for salt water recreational fishing in Massachusetts.  Freshwater fishing licenses are required and can be purchased at local tackle shops.

Closest Local Public Golf Courses:
•Ballymeade Country Club – The jewel in the crown, our Championship 18 Hole Golf Course, has been redesigned by Jim Fazio and Chi Chi Rodriguez to provide a challenging and memorable round of golf for all levels of play. You will soon see why Ballymeade is the “talk of the Cape” as the course utilizes all of the natural topography of the area, not offered anywhere else on Cape Cod.
•Falmouth Country Club – A challenging 27-hole year-round public course not far from beaches, cranberries and all that is Cape Cod. Walk or ride the championship 18 hole, par 72 course, or enjoy the 9 hole, par 37 “Talon” course. Flat terrain, lush fairways and immaculate greens will bring out the best in your game.
•Cape Cod Country Club – On the borders of Coonamessett Pond in Falmouth Massachusetts, Cape Cod Country Club offers an 18 hole championship golf course open to the general public. This Massachusetts golf course has an interesting layout with a variety of undulating fairways and subtly sloped greens. The course wanders through a series of charming vistas of water and woods.
•Paul Harney Golf Club – Paul Harney Golf Club is an 18-hole executive length golf course in East Falmouth, Massachusetts. This short layout will reward good shots and provide a fun golf outing for everyone.

The original house was aptly named “Butternut Cottage” for the abundance of butternut trees on the property. It featured three steeply pitched cross-gables, a steep gambrel roof line, room layout and side chimneys which blend elements of late 18th century American colonial architecture, with English and Dutch influences typical of Berkshire and Hudson Valley homes of the day.

It has been lovingly tended for and now maintains historical integrity combined with modern amenities.

A room just for you

The room you retreat to at night should be as divine as the stay itself. Each room at our resort has been designed to reflect this notion. Charming and well-appointed, all provide a personal retreat that blends country luxury with thoroughly modern touches. Sink-into-slumber beds. Complimentary Wi-Fi. Marble baths. The most favored of amenities. Just as you’d expect it.

Beyond appointments, we know the most important thing we can offer in our rooms is choice. Cozy rooms reminiscent of a European country manor. Romantic suites with fireplaces. Two- and three-bedroom resort homes with sundecks, kitchens and incredible views. At Topnotch, you’ll find a room that’s just for you – and for whatever your vacation agenda includes.

Like all of our hotel, your room reflects the touches our intimate scale uniquely affords. A favorite book by your bedside. The option of breakfast in bed. Bath salts (your favorite!) to enhance your soak. Robes to fit our youngest guests. Anything else? It’s a phone call away. And our pleasure. To us, your every comfort is important – and your room should be the perfect start of an ideal Vermont vacation experience.

Start your day with a wonderful Breakfast. Each morning our guests enjoy a full, hot breakfast which is served usually in our dining room at our mid-century 12 person dining table. On occasion, breakfast is served in the Living Room or Sun Room, and in the warmer months sometimes on the canopied terrace overlooking the gardens. Our sumptuous three-course breakfast starts with fruit juice, home made breads or muffins and a specially prepared fruit dish. A tantalizing hot entrée is then presented to you to give your taste buds an early morning treat. The menu of the day might include Sweet Pepper Scrambled Eggs, Breakfast Casserole, Ginger Pancakes with Lemon Sauce, Pain Perdu (French Toast) with local Mad River Valley Maple Syrup, Asparagus filled Crêpes or Granny's Cheesey Soufflé.

There are excellent restaurants to choose from in the Mad River Valley for dinner, and all are owned by the people you will meet when you dine there.  We take great pride that almost all the businesses in the Valley are locally owned and operated.  Many of the restaurants focus on local ingredients.  We have a few favorites, which include The Common Man, just a mile or two from the B&B. You will dine in a barn that is over 150 years old, and the soaring hand hewn rafters of the timbered interior are lit by crystal chandeliers, soft candlelight, and a huge open-hearth manor fireplace in season. Dining is elegantly casual and casually elegant, definitely romantic, and is applauded by Vermonters and visitors alike. The restaurant has earned scores of prestigious awards.  We offer a special $99 per couple all inclusive price for our guests which includes a full choice from the menu - all you have to pay in addition is your bar bill.

The Mad River Valley is the perfect place to relax: beautiful scenery year round, no traffic lights, no fast food, and with all restaurants and lodging locally owned and operated. Tranquility awaits you, yet with so many things to do and see! Not to mention the many great restaurant choices close by for an enjoyable dinner each evening.

West Hill House is only one mile from Sugarbush skiing, golfing and tennis resort and adjacent to its Robert Trent Jones Sr. championship golf course - and just seven miles from the Mad River Glen co-operatively owned ski area. We're off the beaten path, but close to the center of Warren and Waitsfield with all their restaurants, shopping and artisans, and in the midst of outdoor recreation beyond imagination. It's a great base from which to explore and enjoy all of Central Vermont.

With warm weather hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, golf and tennis, soaring, spectacular foliage season autumn colors and wintertime downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and sleigh riding all nearby, Sugarbush and the Mad River Valley is a great place to visit at any season of the year! And don't forget the Mad Marathon and the other events of the Vermont Festival of the Great Outdoors in July, then the month long Vermont Festival of the Arts in August.

We host weddings in our ‘shoulder’ seasons – including May and June, then after Labor Day. We will work on an individual basis for weddings of less than 40 guests during July and August. We work with each couple to customize their wedding - it can be as formal or casual as you would like. Customized weddings or modifications to our wedding package may be made and the price adjusted accordingly.

We strongly recommend a visit to Black Point Inn so we may show you our resort, the setting for your wedding reception and dinner, and offer ideas and suggestions on menus and other reception details.
