MASSACHUSETTS: Instead of buying her some wilting hot-house flowers, take her out to the fresh flowers: The Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne or the botanical gardens at Smith College in Northampton are two great places to relish in the natural beauty of May. Pollen, petals, and a small picnic make for great mother’s day activities.

CONNECTICUT: Take in the small scale coastal charm in Madison. Pretty much any town along the Connecticut coast would offer scenic mother’s day activities galore, but Madison and its neighbor Old Saybrook boast beaches, bright and shiny shops, and sidewalk cafes for extra easy enjoyment.

VERMONT: Not enough airline miles to jet to Paris? Bummer. But there are still unique mother’s day activities for you francophiles! Getaway to France through the exquisite french food at the Vergennes Laundry in Vergennes. Load up on pastries, bread, and down a smoky espresso before dipping your toes into the crystal clear waters of Lake Champlain.

RHODE ISLAND: Grab brunch and then head out on a cliff walk in Newport. You’ll get a gull’s eye view of the mansions and the salty sea air will invigorate your senses. Plus, the clifftops offer many a spectacular photo setting for you and your mother.

Take an interpretive walk with a ranger, wander the paths yourself, or pluck up some shellfish right out of the sand. After soaking in the peace of these pristine habitats, treat your mom to a bite in the village and make sure to cheers mama Carson over cocktails.

With fun and accessible outings available in each state you can now spend more time honoring and thanking mom on May 8, and less time planning, buying, and driving.
