Enjoy Some Facetime With The White Mountains

You’ve probably made one or two day trips, but there’s nothing like being able to peek out at the sublime beauty of the White Mountains from your window. It also doesn’t hurt being steps away from countless trails made for unbeatable hiking, skiing, and climbing.

A charming stream in Lincoln, NH, nestled in the western White Mountain region.Even lifelong New Hampshirites will find fresh experiences in the mountain-facing town of Lincoln. During the warmer months, you can conquer new heights at Alpine Adventures or make a splash at Whale’s Tale Waterpark. Wintertime sees not only top-notch skiing, but frozen fortresses ripe for exploring at the Ice Castles. Another spot fit for the whole family is the Polar Caves just outside of Plymouth. Climb the Polar Ascent, explore granite caves, and feed ducks and fallow deer in the animal area.

Get Off the Grid

For some low-key relaxation intertwined with streams and wooded paths, put Jackson on your staycation list. The town is surrounded by captivating vistas of mountains, dense forests, and calm little brooks running off the Ellis River. After a stroll by the Jackson Falls, take a swing at one of four golf courses in the area.

About 10 minutes south in North Conway, watch the mountainous landscapes whirl by on the Conway Scenic Railroad. You can also take a ride on the Kancamagus Scenic Byway, a 34.5 mile drive renowned for its glorious views during foliage season.

Make a Splash in the Lakes Region

As a New Hampshirite, you may know a thing or two about the Lakes Region; but only a full-fledged staycation will allow you to indulge in the full scope of its activities and attractions. It’s easy to find inspiration with a trip to the Ekal Activity Center — you can rent a stand-up paddleboard on one day and try aqua cycling the next. You can also tour Lake Winnipesaukee in style on an antique speedboat ride.

After you’ve had your fill of those lush trees and gorgeous waters, shop ‘til you drop at the specialty stores in downtown Meredith. Have a blast with old-school games at the gargantuan Funspot arcade, or keep it simple and scenic with a stroll through the area’s many covered bridges.
