The Wentworth, A White Mountain Inn

Girlfriends - this cottage was built for you!  There is nothing more unique than the Amster Cottage at The Wentworth Hotel. In 1920 a gentleman by the name of Nathan Amster came to check in at The Wentworth Hotel in Jackson. He was informed that since the hotel was an “exclusive resort” therefor Mr. and Mrs. Amster, being of Jewish faith were denied the right to check in. Mr. Amster who had made his fortune in railroads asked to speak to the manager. General Marshall Wentworth came down from his home, a castle overlooking the waterfalls in Jackson Village and both of them had a very gentlemanlike discussion. At one point Mr. Amster asked General Wentworth to name his price for the hotel and resort and at the answer Mr. Amster took out his checkbook and bought The Wentworth on the spot. He and his wife Estelle built the Amster Cottage as their private home on the property.

Today the cottage has been beautifully restored and features all of the modern amenities that one would expect from a luxury hotel like The Wentworth. Entering to the cottage it has its own lobby with a large fieldstone fireplace and comfortable seating. Off of the lobby are four identical guest rooms, each large and roomy with a king bed in the bedroom and a sitting room featuring a gas fireplace. These rooms can be accessed from the lobby or also each room has an private outdoor entrance. The bonus feature for this cottage is a private inner courtyard which has an eight person outdoor hot tub, a sauna and a beautiful sitting area surrounded by a garden.
