The Perfect Fall Vacation In Connecticut

In New England, the breeze is beginning to chill and the climate is faintly calling to fall. Soon, the leaves will be splashes of yellows, reds, and oranges like a watercolor sunset on canvas, and you’ll need a sweater when you set out on a walk. There’s something cozy and calming about this changing of seasons—a transition to the new. Even author Ruth Ahmed said, “there is something so special in the early leaves drifting from the trees–as if we are all to be allowed a chance to peel, to refresh, to start again.” A quaint vacation in Connecticut is just the place to begin this new season.

Explore Connecticut Outdoors

Venture out into the crisp air to participate in one of our favorite fall activities: apple picking. Fill your bag with a variety of freshly plucked apples and shop some seasonal favorites at Silverman's Farm, a local staple.

For a show of stunning fall foliage, hit the trails of the Talcott Mountain State Park. The 165-foot Heublein Tower provides a great perch from which to gaze out over the Farmington River Valley. The Tower Trail is 1.25-miles long and only accessible by walking trail. Be prepared to encounter an assortment of wildlife and perhaps bring a picnic to enjoy at the peak.

Savor Some Fall Favorites

What would fall be without a cup of apple cider in hand? Mystic, Connecticut is home to Clyde’s Cider Mill, the oldest cider mill in the United States. Not only is it a historic landmark, it’s also a fully functioning steam-powered mill that produces fresh, delicious cider. Each year on September 1st, this family-owned cidery opens their doors for a season of serving sweet cider, hard cider, wine, cider donuts, and other local goods. Stop by for a cider-making demonstration or a wine and hard cider tasting.

The iconic symbol of fall comes alive on your taste buds at this next stop. Begin or end your day at Birdhouse Coffee with a fall-themed drink in the form of a classic pumpkin spice latte or a pumpkin drizzled cocktail. This South Windsor coffee shop believes in bringing the community together, and slurping up pumpkin spice beverages is definitely something we can all get behind. If you prefer beer over cocktails, Stony Creek Brewery knows how to get the Oktoberfest party started. With a featured Liter-Hosen beer in hand, you’ll be ready to yell prost! all evening.

Experience Connecticut Charm

Connecticut fall vacations aren’t complete without a visit to the Woodbury Antiques Trail—a charming string of over two dozen shops. Restaurants, professional art dealers, and local craft vendors line this trail, making it easy to spend the whole day browsing through historic and timeless gems. A weekend along this trail will leave your hands full of shopping bags and your soul refreshed.
