Property Overview

Basin Harbor is a classic Vermont resort on Lake Champlain that offers a variety of lodging options to make you feel right at home. Whether you’re a family of four, a couple looking for a quiet getaway, or part of a large group gathering, they have the perfect accommodation for you. Originally a 225-acre working farm catering to summer boarders, Basin Harbor has expanded to cover 700-acres of Vermont‘s most pristine land along the shores of Lake Champlain. Basin Harbor encompasses the main lodge, 3 guest houses, 75 cottages, an  18-hole golf course, spectacular gardens, a 3,200-foot grass airstrip, 60-slip marina, and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.

“Since 1886 Basin Harbor has provided its guests with highly praised cuisine. For us, Farm to Table is not a new concept. In an attempt to make our guests’ dining experience as memorable as possible, we have collaborated with local growers from Addison County and other areas of Vermont to supply our patrons with the freshest products available.” The resort’s formal dining room Ardelia's is where guests can enjoy a delicious, multi-course meal. Guest may also dine at the Red Mill, a more casual dining option. This renovated sawmill features a pub-style menu highlighting fresh and local ingredients from around Addison County. Several times a week during the summer season, guests and transients can enjoy a lakeside, al fresco dining experience on the North Dock; menus range from lavish lobster bakes to Harbor Fair cookouts and Vermont Picnics. Basin Harbor offers a myriad of activities and entertainment all season long for every interest. Activities include sailing, kayaking, guided cruises, nature walks, children’s programs, craft and cooking classes, fitness classes, water sports, dockside dinners, biking, and so much more! Easily accessible by land, air and water, once here, you don't need to leave.

Over a century old, the property is rich with history and is a member of Historic Hotels of America. Basin Harbor was established in 1886 by Ardelia Beach and has remained family owned ever since. Today, guests are greeted by fourth generation hosts, Pennie Beach and Robert H. Beach Jr, and fifth generation host, Sarah Morris who look forward to seeing you on your Lake Champlain vacations and getaways.

Dining

Dining at Basin Harbor is all about choices. Our lakefront dining room Ardelia's, serves breakfast and dinner and during the summer season, we try to encourage the long standing tradition of jacket and tie for gentlemen over the age of 12 at the dinner hour. Ardelia’s offers guests at Basin Harbor a wonderful culinary experience with a French influence cuisine which marries ingredients and different flavors in harmony to keep the great taste of the “Terroir” as authentic as possible.

The Ranger Room serves a sumptuous luncheon buffet daily with cold salads, hot entrees, children’s items, soup and sandwiches and a dessert/sundae bar where adults and children alike jockey for a place in line!

The Red Mill Restaurant is a renovated sawmill with hand hewn rafters and ephemera decorating the walls providing a rich visual history of Basin Harbor and Lake Champlain. The menu features more casual dished highlighting fresh, local ingredients.


The North Dock presents the most spectacular lakeside dining experience. Any closer and you would be treading water. Three nights a week, guests can enjoy a traditional lobster bake, Harbor Fair or Vermont picnic with live music and the summer breezes.
 
Vermont has been heralded as a forerunner in the Localvore movement. Basin Harbor’s relationship with local farms insures fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The staff prides itself on carefully crafted menus and impeccable service, insuring that every dining experience at Basin Harbor is memorable one.

All non-studio cottages offer a separate bedroom and living room with a double pullout sofa.
